Great intro to KM. As the book clearly states, it's not very useful without actual live instruction. I agree with that. It's a good overview of the concepts, and offers pretty clear descriptions of certain types of situational defense/offense. I found that it helped consolidate and expand on information I had learned from live instruction.

I think there was one illustration in the whole book. I bought it based on the 5 star rating it had at the time but I have to question those reviews . The book is very short on substance and usable material.

I am a beginning practitioner. This book was extremely useful in explaining the lingo that threads through most Krav Maga classes. It helped me understand the concepts better. I will definitely reread before my test!

Good information though not what I was expecting more diagrams would be nice. But I enjoyed reading it very much

I got this for my nephew who is into martial arts, to encourage him to read a little more. Krav Maga means “contact combat” in Hebrew and a little of the history and principles of this fighting style are explained here. The author emphasizes that the book alone cannot teach anyone to be a krav maga fighter, but my nephew still found it interesting. Many strikes, punches and kicks are explained and the included diagrams are helpful, as is the glossary of terms at the end of the book. Defensive moves against various attacks is also covered.

I dont recommend this at all. Is just blah blah blah

A friend of mine studies Krav Maga, so when I came across this book, I was intrigued.I like that there are pictures of the moves and good descriptions, but I don't think this something that can be learned simply from reading.There are many good defense moves in this book, but I think I would have to actually go to a class to get the correct form and technique. That being said, it is an interesting book!

It's a good start,when you want to understand what Krav Maga is all about. But if you want a book to show you what techniques you can use, it's not a book you would like! Also the cartoon pictures doesn't show much.

This book help me to understand what was going on in my relationship because I had never encountered a person like this before in my life. I had never really seen a true Jekyl and Mr. Hyde. It was unnerving watching him unfold so drastically so quickly, that I was desperately looking for answers. This book answered a lot of the questions.

This is a great book for information, and especially for creating an agreement. The only downfall is that it isn't written particularly well. That is to be expected of a person who isn't a professional author. She repeats herself a lot. However, I've rated this book 4 stars because it is a particularly important read for anyone, such as myself, who found herself being verbally, and then physically abused.

I am so grateful for this book. It gave me help in figuring out what I need to do next. It also provided information and insights. I highly recommend it for anyone in an abusive relationship.

This is a very well-written behind-the-scenes hockey book. Kelly takes you through the evolution in goaltending which he adapted during his playing career (doing from stand-up to incorporating butterfly technique). He also speaks plainly about locker room issues he experienced, particularly with the coach in his last playing stop. I would recommend this for any hockey fan you may have on your Christmas gift list!

I was never a fan of teams that Kelly played for. I have been a lifelong Habs fan, and in the last few decades have usually picked a western expansion team to cheer for out west. But I was always a fan of his play. And to be honest he is one of my favorite hockey commentators of all time. I remember watching Hrudey with the Islanders when I was in High school, and following him in LA when I was in university. He was always an entertaining goalie to watch, and on camera either in front of the interview of behind he has consistently been engaging and entertaining. But reading his book opened my eyes up to a lot that I was completely unaware of.His insight into his own struggles with depression. His openness about his personal struggles is tremendously encouraging. He tells it like it is. He speaks about his own struggles, struggles teams he was on have had. But for the most part he focuses on the positive in others and the negatives in his own character or personal struggles.Over the last few years I have read a few other hockey memoirs, specifically Domi and Clark. And though I enjoyed both of those books, I really believe this is by far a better read. Kelly’s being open about his struggles in many ways makes this book more real, more touching. I Appreciate Hrudey even more than I did before reading this book. This book is an excellent read, for fans of Kelly’s or just people who grew up watching Hockey in that era. Or fr fans of him as a commentator on hockey Night in Canada!

The title and the cover illustration are a bit misleading. This book will *not* be interesting to most children. (If you were expecting a picture book based on the cover, know that it's not... there are no illustrations inside.) The book proceeds as a Socratic dialogue between teacher and students --a format that in itself COULD be very clever and accessible children if the content were different. However, the author places questions in the children's mouths that would not interest, occur to, or make sense to young readers/listeners who are not already quite familiar with the arguments that adult proselytizing Christians make. I think this book is most suitable for adults who are seeking to familiarize themselves with the arguments in favor of humanism in a very easy-to-read format. If you were looking to use this book as a resource to explain humanism to your children, the best way to proceed might be to read the book for yourself in order to gather your thoughts (it's a very quick read), and then be on the lookout for "teachable moments" in daily life to start conversations with your child in your own words.

This book is a great tool if you are good at editing as you read. Its kind of bizarre as written. My children think the questions asked by the children and the manner in which they are asked is very strange. It has some good explanations though, for things that I was having a hard time putting into words, so I find it useful. I just wouldn't sit and read it to the kids. It doesn't work for us as a story.

Terrific primer for this magnificent outlook on the world. If you hope the best for your child ... and if by 'best' you mean to make them a thinking contributing human INDIVIDUAL (not an automoton who simply mimics a design of your own making) I could not more highly recommend this fine book.

Like many reviews of this book, it is a dialogue between a few children and their teacher. While the teacher challenges the children's statements and questions, such as "how can anyone be good who doesn't believe in god?" she sometimes responds with a barrage of questions of her own that could be more helpful broken down and answered individually. Also, she refers to many, many facets of history such as the Dark Ages, Renaissance, Genesis, Greek Mythology etc. in her answers and explanation of Humanism. So it will take a child well versed in social studies, various religions or science to understand her answers to some of questions. Or it will take a child/parent willing to stop and explore these things to grasp the entire concept. I would say this book would be most effective with kids with an open mind, skepticism and a willingness to stand by what feels right for them to believe. Whether it is Humanism or not.

Want an alternative to religion to instill values and morals in your child. This is a great book.

This is a fine book for teachers and or anyone who is not a theist trying to answer questions about "non-belief." The world has always had non believers. Unfortunately fear from any and all religious sects kept the secular/humanistic point of view hidden beneath the thundering voice of authoritarian religion. We need more people to speak out.

This book is excellent for explaining humanism and separation of church and state to kids 9-15.

Not hostile to other beliefs and a very good example of what humanism is. My children enjoyed reading this.

This is book 10 of the Space Team series and the author still has me laughing at these goofy characters. Cal Carver & his (space) team of misfits has saved the universe but also, unfortunately, changed the time stream as well. Everything is truly fonked up once they try to return to “normal” space/time and it seems like it only gets worse with each moment. Luckily Hutchinson, the wildly creative author, makes their misfortunes entertaining for us readers with witty dialogue and clever plotting. I’m on board for as many Space Team books as he can produce... honestly, I get most of my books from the library because I’m very cheap but this is one series that I purchase outright because they are worth the price & more (but don’t tell the author or he might jack the price, lol!)

Have you ever wondered where mustard comes from? Me neither but if you believe this book it comes from the mustard mines on a distant planet! And once again the Space Team is there to save the world in the nick of time. If you have already read adventures 1-9 it would be silly of you to skip this one before reading #11, which is also out. This is Without question the finest, the funniest, and the most dangerous space adventure since episode 9, whichever that one was. And it’s got Space Wasps! And bad guys with eyes in their nostrils. Space Team is the choice of sci-fi humor aficionados from here to Aldebaran who have already read the Hitchiker’s Guide so many times that they had to buy another copy. Read it you must.

Cal has the team ready for their next "saving the universe" moment.... but is it the one they belong in? This time the team really has their hands full and Cal is his usual calm self (yeah right) and begins to have a plan...or something...maybe. This is fun to read and the yucks just keep slapping. It has the same humor and twist as all the past and new twists that make turning pages interesting...well, reading, not so much the page turning thing.

This series is honestly my favorite. If I were stranded on a deserted island, this would be the one set of books I would want to have on me. Besides a set of books on how to survive being stranded on a deserted island. That might take precedence.But anyways. This book was epic. I should have been studying for the SAT. I should have been doing homework. I should have been working on my college applications. I read this instead. Was it worth it? Yes.

I don't want to give any thing away, but if you have liked all or any of the previous books in the series, then you'll love this one as well. While I have loved all of these books, this one is probably one of my most favorites in the series so far. Sit back and enjoy the adventure and hilarity!

Side splittingly funny. If you need a laugh, then pick up this book. Do not however drink anything while reading as it will end up coming out from laughing.

It was funny classic Cal. Story was creative as always but I didn't like the new guy that was annoying much. And too much regrow ing from injuries. Baby hands get old lol. I mean don't get me wrong it was good but out of all the books this was not my favorite.

One of these days, Cal Carver and the author, Barry Hutchison will grow up and become mature adults. Frankly, that will be a sad day.Like all the Space Team books, this one hit's it's mark, walking the fine line between mature, reasoning characters (everyone except Cal) and Cal Carver's space-immaturity.Well done, funny read, keep the stories coming.
