Cadogan Guides always have clever and interesting information that reveals more than the typical travel guide about the history of the region or places. These are guides have more primary information about the destination, culture etc. than photos so can be used in companion with other travel guides, although the Cadogan guide is the more indispensible.

I bought this book because I am actually moving to Sardinia in a few months - and, believe it or not, I've never been there - so I needed a book that encompasses absolutely everything about the island. From food and wine to history, from beaches to the nuraghi, this book definitely has it all! It's a fairly easy read and I've learned so much from it. I feel like I've already been there. Even if you've never thought about visiting Sardinia, you'll want to after reading this guide. It has my highest recommendation.

Cadogan's guide to Sardinia is filled with history and practical details. The guide doesn't have pictures, just simple illustrations and some useful maps. The recommendations for hotels were also very good. We stayed in Cagliari, Arbus, and Nuoro. We were looking for hotels which were charming and not too expensive, and the book definitely met that need. The beach descriptions were also useful. Sardinia has many of them. :-) It's not necessary to go to the more expensive Costa Smeralda region in order to have a wonderful holiday in Sardinia. As a side tip, if you are going to Sardinia via Cagliari, drop by the tourist office. The people there were very nice, and they had a plethora of good information on Sardinia.

A big help...took the mystique out of the device. I am old and slow, and made a leap from a primitive 'flip phone' to the Galaxy S 5, and while some of the changes seemed huge at the outset, Dummies helped get me through those changes in a logical manner. Well done.

I'm still in the process of trying to get the most out of my phone so I'm still reading this book. I have found it very helpful I can go back and reread what I don't understand. The book is written for people like me that don't have a great knowledge about electronic devices but really want to learn. I would recommend this book to help learn a new skill, learning how to use a new phone!!

Seems odd -- Smart phones for dummies. I am not a techie, but I like the features of smart phones. Bill Hughes does a great job of explaining this beautiful phone for people like me. I am not a beginner nor an expert; I just want to get better use out of this amazing machine.

This book serves as a basic introduction to first-time S5 users...in most cases it simply tells what various features are rather than how to set them up and use them. There are a few areas where the author goes into more detail, for example phone security. In other areas details are lacking. So as the 3 stars rating ("It's OK") suggests, I am not wildly enthusiastic about it. I also bought 2 other books--Hughes "Help Me! Guide to the Galaxy S5" and Halbert's "Samsung Galaxy S5: The 100% unofficial User Guide". I'm hoping between the three of them I can learn how to take advantage of at least most of what the GS5 has to offer. Honestly, most of what I've learned has been through Youtube video tutorials...and they are free.

My last phone was a flip phone so using the Galaxy S5 was all new to us. We don't have kids to teach us so my husband and I bought this to learn more about the phone.It's rather simplistic.... written for the most basic user who really knows NOTHING about technology. I may not be experienced with smart phones in general but I am an advanced computer user in general and the first few chapters were common knowledge for me. The book has some good info in it but you can learn just as much about your phone from watching free videos on You Tube.

Very comprehensive. You wont believe how much the S5 is capable of.

This Dummies book saved my sanity. My new phone (my first) came with absolutely no user manual and the download from Samsung was such tiny print that I hated using it. This book has enabled me to find and use features I possibly would not have ever used. Somehow manufacturers and instructional manual writers assume that we all have had such a device since the first one and have learned as we upgraded. To come into this market years down the line without much guidance at all is a guidebook to failure and frustration. This well written, humorous book is in a prominent place, near my phone.

Written very plainly and explains how to use this phone very well. Recommended to anyone who needs a simple explanation of how to use a very good phone.

FIrst, it should be noted that the editorial review and back cover both note, "Know when you'll move in with a helpful calendar-style checklist" and "Select the right mortgage". Neither of those are covered, at least not in this 4th edition. I see the number of pages were reduced from 824 pages in the 3rd ed. to 791 in this edition. Part of the mystery may be that the index does have an entry that says, "moving in timeline, 783-803". Well, not only does it NOT have 803 pages, the index is on pages 775 - 791! Finally, the back cover also says "Evaluate doing it yourself vs. subcontracting". This my be presented in a round-about way, but it really goes right into using a builder - never presenting the "do-it-yourself" versus contractor analysis.With that said, the book DOES provide a lot of great information. Every part of the building process seems to be covered. The pros/cons of the various construction methods (such as foundation types, wall construction, etc.) is very useful.The bottom line is this is a very good book that I would recommend for anyone building a home, but just keep in mind things noted in the editorial info, back cover, etc. are missing. I can't believe the editorial staff at McGraw-Hill were so negligent in this matter, and it makes me wonder what other inconsistencies can be found throughout the book.

This book is great, it covers almost everything about building a house.But it is a little bit outdated, for example for the selecting contractor part. If the author could list a few websites that you can get your contractors that could be fairly helpful. Since nowadays, many contractors bit online for the projects. I guess, this would save a lot of time than asked real estate agents or go to material supplier to ask for contractors.Still, a great book to recommended.PS. I would like to build my own home. And this book give me a lot of confidence.

Lot of good information in here. The book was revised in 2005, so there is a lot that has changed, for example to have two phone lines if there will be someone using the internet. Having said that, it does raise questions that you should be asking to have a well constructed home.

Mitchel Resnick, an expert in educational technologies, is Professor of Learning Research at the MIT Media Lab. He has worked closely with the LEGO toy company for thirty years, collaborating with them on such innovative projects as the LEGO Mindstorms robotics kits, and he holds the LEGO endowed chair at MIT. Resnick provides an amazing overview of past research and his contributions to the value of creativity and creative learning. He also thoughtfully lays out concrete ways that anyone can take his ideas and do something about it. Never felt more hopeful about the future of learning as after reading this book. I also appreciate that Resnick doesn't pull any punches when criticizing views he doesn't agree with. I will recommend this book along with Mindstorms as the two most helpful texts to understanding the ins and outs of creative learning.

I bought this as a required text for a class on educational technology. This author essentially stretched a topic worthy of a periodical article into a small book. If you can get past the author continually patting himself and MIT on the back and the incessant advertisements for Lego, he actually has some good points. Is the subject matter worthy of a book? Yes. Does Resnick do it justice? Not really.

Great book on the need for shifting our education model towards cultivating creativity and away from memorization. Obviously this book is highly relevant if you work in education or have a younger child, but this is also relevant if you have an interest in corporate culture. Lifelong Kindergarten has definitely given me some ideas about how companies can do a better job at creating an environment of lifelong learning.

This is a very brief book that looks at some of the philosophy behind MIT's long-running projects in hands-on learning for kids. If you already work in this space and know the group well, it's a nice short summary of where they are coming from. . If you are a tech developer, you will find the interspersed case study of the development of Scratch interesting, although it would have been good if there had been more discussion of results. In short, a good readable summary of philosophy with a few nuggets of detail, but given less than 5 stars because it was a little more breezy than I had hoped.

Fascinating! Of course this book is "preaching to the choir" for me as I was a homeschool parent whose two adult children are lifelong learners and very creative. I intend to introduce my grandson to the Scratch program.

Sometimes, I struggle reading Mitch’s work because of his style and tone. He’s a man wound up in wonderful ideas and possibilities. Sometimes, this gives the book a feeling of being a step and a half removed from classroom teachers new to this kind of thinking. This is not a primer, and I didn’t want to be. Building on his years of work with Scratch, Resnick brings forward the tectonic views of Seymour Papert, and gives them new breath and perspective. I enjoyed this book. I enjoyed the perspective, and I enjoyed the inclusion of the voices shaped by these practices.

Inspirational book about creativity and play. Not surprisingly, there are a lot of references to Scratch (the programming language), and this book made me think about the importance of the collaborative online community of Scratch users - something I've never really appreciated in the past.There are sections titled "In Their Own Voices" which are mini-interviews. I wasn't as impressed by those - I would have preferred to hear more of Resnick's stories about Projects, Passion, Peers and Play from his own experiences.

Mitcheal Resnick's book attract me most about his ideas in HOW to make a kid creative. I mostly agree with his points and I believe these should be the guideline for education, not only for kids, but adults as well.I did not grate it as 5 stars because of all his samples are among Scratch, Clubhouse and Lego. I expect more stories around the world, even around the MIT Lab, such as their studies about Kids interactive with AI technology. I hope his next book will bring us more insight about AI influence on kids education as a lifelong study agent.Any way, this is a very good book for parents to read.
