Teach Your Giraffe to Ski is a humorous story about a giraffe who wants to ski down the Big Scary Slope, but he isn't quite ready. My daughter and I are avid skiers, so we immediately connected to this book. There aren't many picture books out there about skiing, so we were delighted to find this one. I believe it will inspire a new generation of skiers! A must have for any classroom or library.
First of all, who wouldn't want to see a giraffe try to ski? The humor is built into the premise of the story. Then, there's the layer of teaching kids actual ski lesson terms that will help them in ski school or on the slope. And then, the super fun refrain of "Great Spotties!" It's a winner for my 5 and 9 year olds.
Teach Your Giraffe to Ski makes for some humorous skiing lessons that will have your young reader giggling (while learning about some solid ski basics!)! The sweet friendship between the young boy and his giraffe allows for the humor to come through authentically, and by the end you feel the joy and connection of the act of teaching and learning and sharing experiences between friends. A great winter book and holiday gift. Also not many kid skiing books out there--this is a fantastic picture book for your kids' collection!
